Deeper Understanding

Source: Classroom Information Cards (from my own selection)

Today, please read the assignment carefully. I will provide you with the Learning Intention and Criteria which you will glue onto the left-hand side of your Reading Log. You will complete the assignment this week in the classroom.

Learning Intention: I can identify the topic, main idea and write five supporting details.

Criteria: 1) Identify article’s topic
               2) Identify article’s main idea
              3) Record five details (short, accurate, keyword notes)
              4) Print neatly and accurately (e.g. spelling)

Below the Criteria, write the following headings and then complete the task (remember, this is all completed on the left-hand side of your notebook)

Topic:

Main Idea:

Details (notes, keywords) (* single space only)

Task Description:

1.    Choose a card from my selection

2.   Scan the article to get a quick idea of the content and record the topic (look at all the text features: headings, tables, side notes, pictures)

3.   Read the article carefully and record the main idea (do not record any notes the first time you read)

I look forward to reading about your chosen topic.

Love, Mrs. French
