Dear Grade Fives!

This blog is Part One of two. You will complete Part Two next week.

We have been goal setting and have just completed term one. Today, I would like you to reflect on the areas you think are interfering with your academic success. For example, you might notice that you seem to miss important information about assignments, or that you always have work unfinished, or that you often need to fix your handwriting.

In a paragraph, please tell me about areas that are making academic success more difficult or unpleasant for you. Remember that your first sentence is your promise sentence. Be sure that you keep all specific information for your support sentences. Remember, I am expecting a well-crafted paragraph.

To help ensure that your response is ready to post, please

1) Read over your response to ensure that it makes sense.
2) Use spell-check to help you with your spelling.
3) Listen to your blog.
4) Use the checklist to help ensure that your paragraph uses the correct conventions.

These tools are intended to make it easier for you to complete a writing assignment successfully. Take advantage of them.

As always, I look forward to reading your responses!
Love, Mrs. French

Challenge: Are you looking for a little extra challenge? Write an 'I wonder...' question after your blog response e.g. something that you wonder about after reflecting on our topic.

Books You Enjoy

Dear Grade Fives!
Today I am asking you what type of book you like to read, fiction or non-fiction books. Fiction books are stories that did not actually happen. They come from the author’s own imagination, experience or some research. Non-fiction books provide us with information, facts about a certain topic.
In a paragraph, please tell me what type of books (fiction or non-fiction) you like to read. You can tell me about authors, titles, or book genres (adventure, mystery, science fiction etc.) you really enjoy. Remember to answer my question.

Remember, I am expecting a well-crafted paragraph. To help ensure this, please 1) read over your response to ensure that it makes sense; 2) use spell-check to help you with your spelling; 3) listen to your blog; and 4) use the checklist to help ensure that your paragraph uses the correct conventions. These tools are intended to make it easier for you to complete a writing assignment successfully. Take advantage of them.

As always, I look forward to reading your responses!

Canada: A Closer Look at Our Country

Dear Grade Fives!

Over the past several Social Studies periods, you have been recreating a relief map of Canada. Today, in your response, I would like you to write a complete paragraph describing what you have learned about Canada. I would like you to describe Canada’s landscape in as much detail as possible. You are welcome to use the above map to help you. As you write, please assume that I know nothing about our country’s geographical features.
Remember, I am expecting a well-crafted paragraph. To help ensure this, please use the checklist very carefully. It is intended to make it easier for you to complete a writing assignment successfully. Take advantage of it.
As usual, I look forward to reading your responses.

Love, Mrs. French
