Dear Grade Fives,
On Thursday Oct. 10th, we go to Stellaquo to see the salmon spawn. In preparation, I would like you to view the following video Life Cycle of Salmon and listen to the Salmon Life Cycle Song.
I would then like you to write a short paragraph describing the salmon life cycle. Ensure that all sentences begin with a capital and end with a period. Please use your best guess spelling for unknown words.

Life of a salmon
ReplyDeleteThe female lays its eggs then the male protects the nest for a couple of weeks. Then the parent’s die, the fish hatch and grow. At first the baby’s have a yolk sack and once the baby’s done't have there yolk sack they are 1 inch long they are called finger lings. now they are old enough to go down stream. When the salmon go to the ocean they stay there for 5 or 6 years. It is a difficult to stay alive because of fishing boats and praetors .after 5 or 6 years the salmon go up stream they go to the exact stream they where born at. And have there baby’s.it starts all over again.

ReplyDeleteA salmon’s life starts as an egg. When they hatch they are called a fry. Most salmon don’t see there baby’s. But the mother salmon stays for a couple of weeks to protect her nests of eggs. When the eggs hatch they grow up in back waters and streams. When they travel to the ocean they have to get use to salt water in there home its clean water. When they reach the ocean they stay there for 2 to 5 years. In the ocean they have to watch out for fisher man and net. Sometimes there are dames blocking there way so they have artificial rivers for the fish to go around. They have the sent of there home. When they go back they may have teeth marks if they have got away from
Predators. They mate then they die then eggs hatch

ReplyDeleteToday I learned about the salmon life cycle. A female lays eggs over 1000 for a few days than her male partner admidialy he ferdalases them. Than the eggs grow to young salmon and they go to the ocean ,and when they grow big they they go back to the river and lay more eggs .

When the eggs hatch they are call sack fry. When they are one inch long they are called finger lings. Then they move to a place that has wood and is deep. Then they go in schools. Then they go to salt water habitats. They live in the ocean for at least 5 years to grow. They try to avoid fisher men. Most salmon do not survive in the ocean. Find there way back to where they hatched. Then they lay there eggs and die. Then the cycle goes over and over again.

When the salmon is a inch long they are called inching’s. the salmon will go up stream to go to the ocean. The salmon life cycle
High in a mountain stream the female salmon cleans and shapes the gravel then after when she lays them the male will ferglise the eggs then the mother will cover the eggs with gravel and stay to defend her eggs. When they are ready they will swim up and when they are 1 inch they will be called fingerlings. They will remember the stream that they where born and they will remember the smell to. Then when there all grown up they will spawn and die like there parents. And the cycle will start over.

ReplyDeleteThe salmon move to the ocean after they are born to grow. Then they go back to the streams that they where born to spawn with other salmon. But not all the eggs survive the winter but the eggs that survive they mite not all get back to the streams because of fisherman or bears.

ReplyDeleteAll salmon must first mate before having baby`s, once they mate they have baby`s at once, the female usually lays about three thousand eleven eggs, most female salmon die right after she lays her eggs, once the female is gone the male must protect the eggs, but after a couple of weeks the male must leave. The baby`s must teach them self`s how to swim up stream and to survive in either a lake, river or ocean, only a limited amount of salmon make it into the ocean alive. The salmon must watch out for bigger fish on the way to the ocean, while running upstream lots of bears like to go down to the creek and catch salmon, the salmon have to risk jumping out of the water past the bears and back into the water in order to make it to the ocean, lots of the salmon do not make it.

She covers them with fresh gravel and stays for a few weeks to protect the eggs. The flowing water constantly delivers oxygen to the eggs and takes away waste. The eggs hatch. The fry’s depend on the yolk sack for nereshment. Once they are ready they move upward into the stream. One they are one inch long there called fingerlings. They will remember the stream and smell they will come back when they are older to spawn.As they move up the stream the will start changing to survive in the ocean. This is called smelting. When they reach the ocean they will live there from 2-6 years, growing and changing. Eventually something triggers mature salmon to return to there home stream and reproduce. When they return to the stream to spawn after that the will die. Predators will eat them or insects will to.

The eggs will hatch and will grow and go to the ocean. The will live in the ocean for a few years. Then they will go back to the same river as they where born in and they will lay there eggs and do the same thing as there mom did.
